Amazing location was chosen for Krasnoyarsk — the area between the small river Kacha and mighty Yenisei. Founded in 1628 by Cossacks under the governor Andrew Dubensky fort was destined to become one of the most beautiful cities in Russia.

Have different fate for the Siberian cities in XIX.v. Krasnoyarsk was among the fastest growing, becoming the largest city Yenisei region.

Since 1822 the town became the center of the Yenisei province, maintaining the typical features of provincial cities. Large industrial enterprises were absent, dominated wooden buildings. Further development of the city is connected with the gold. In the 1840s, the Yenisei province became the center of the largest, not only nationwide, but also the world of gold mining district.

In 1882 between Krasnoyarsk and the lower reaches of the Yenisei were established the shipping traffic and in1891 started the construction of the Siberian railway. All this has stimulated a rapid increase in trade turnover, industrial development, population growth, the construction of new buildings.

According to statistics, in the beginning of XX century the city had hospital, two senior’s residences, school, college, seminary, public gardens, a theater, a museum with a public library.

It was a place of political exile before the October Revolution of 1917. Lenin, the Russian Communist leader visited Krasnoyarsk while in exile in Shushenskoe village.

At the turn of the XIX-XX centuries in the Krasnoyarsk appeared large railway workshops with many metalworkers.

During the 1905-1907 Revolution was created «Krasnoyarsk republic.» Soviet authorities in Krasnoyarsk were established on November 10, 1917. From June 18, 1918 until early January 1920 the city was in the hands of the Czechs and White Guards. In January 1920 the city ​​was liberated by the troops of Red Army.

During the years of Soviet power Krasnoyarsk became the largest city in eastern Siberia, its main industry and an important cultural center. During the pre-war five-year plans were built heavy engineering plant («Sibtyazhmash», supplying equipment for the gold), Krasnoyarsk Pulp and paper mill, shipyard, etc.

Today Krasnoyarsk — a modern industrial city with a strong scientific potential, rich cultural and sporting traditions. The population of Krasnoyarsk 998 thousand. In the XXI century as the city of Krasnoyarsk became the city of law, where the rules clearly stated long-term partnership of government, business and the public. There are more than 40 thousand companies, pass through three major highways: the Trans-Siberian railroad, federal highways and the river Yenisei.

In 2008godu established «Golden Book of the city of Krasnoyarsk,» the preservation and enhancement of traditional, public recognition of the special merit of citizens who have made a valuable contribution to the development of the city. The book passed to eternal storage in the museum.

Krasnoyarsk was awarded the Order of the October Revolution (1978), Order of Peter the Great (2001).

Other popular showplaces include the Krasnoyarsk Hydroelectric Power Station dam, the Karaulnaya Gora hill with the Paraskeva Pyatnitsa Chapel, museums, theaters, etc.

There are currency exchange offices in the center of the city, though you should pay attention to the fixed commission being charged and consider the special rates offered for the exchange of large sums.

As a rule, the worst rates are available at large banks and Sberbank in particular. Do not exchange money with private individuals — you may get ripped off in the process of exchanging the money in the street. In addition, the exchange will be illegal.

Try to have the right change when traveling in route taxis as drivers often refuse to accept 500 ruble and 1,000 ruble bank notes as they have no way of checking their authenticity.

Banking Facilities

Traveler’s checks are accepted only by leading banks. You should be aware that using traveler’s checks in Russia is not popular as in other countries. Credit cards Visa, Master Card, American Express are widely accepted at hotels, department stores, big shops, restaurants.

Credit Card

Despite the fact that credit card use is fairly widespread, it is best to carry some cash when in the city. Many places do not accept cards (transport, certain restaurants and cafes, museums). You should also be warned that the logo or sticker of any payment system on the door of any particular establishment is no guarantee that your card will be accepted and you should check with the staff in advance. Cash machines accepting the main credit and debit cards — Visa, Master Card, Maestro, American Express — are fairly common and can be found at shopping centers and large shops, hotels and metro stations.

Language

Official language in Russia is the Russian language. English is quite widespread among the population, especially younger people. At most 4 and 5 star hotels staff speaks English, German, and French. You may find useful some basic knowing of the Russian alphabet, as most of the signs are in Russian. The conference staff speaks fluent English, they will be happy to help anyone who is experiencing difficulties in communicating their needs.

Climate | Weather

Krasnoyarsk experiences a continental climate with long and very cold winters, and short but warm summers. The average temperature for August is about 20...25 ºC, but as year by year the temperature is mostly unpredictable. The weather may be rainy as well, so it is recommended to take an umbrella.

The Organizing Committee does not accept any liability for personal injuries sustained, nor for loss or damage to property belonging to the participants or accompanying persons, either during or as a result of the conference. You are advised to make your own arrangements for health and travel insurance.

Krasnoyarsk

Krasnoyarsk is a city and the administrative center of Krasnoyarsk region, Russia, located on the Yenisei River. It is the third largest city in Siberia.

The city had been established by Russian Cossacks (military servants) in 1628. Its name consists of two words — Krasnyi (red, because of clay reddish soil) and Yar (steep bank).

Vibrant, youthful and backed by attractive spikes of jagged forested foothills, Krasnoyarsk has an appealing setting of a true Siberian city. Pleasant river trips and the nearby Stolby Nature Reserve as well as the region’s best concert halls, theatres, museums and a status of a prominent scientific and educational center make Krasnoyarsk a perfect place of Venue for ICRS 2013.

Public Transport in Krasnoyarsk

Krasnoyarsk is situated on Trans-Siberian railway about halfway between Novosibirsk and Irkutsk, so there are many trains passing by every day.

There are also daily flights between major Russian cities and Krasnoyarsk made by KrasAir Airlines. The public transport is very easy to use and conductors are very friendly.

Krasnoyarsk Airport

Krasnoyarsk airport is situated about 40 minutes by car and 1 hour by bus from the city center along Moskovsky Trakt road (M-53).

If you go by bus, take the route #135.

The airport has a post office, cafe, bank, ATM, currency exchange, snack and news shops, waiting hall, VIP hall, luggage storage room. Contacts: (3912) 230-400.
